A BRIEF REPORT OF OUR ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2018-2019


184th Birthday of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Deva and Public Celebration

Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati, celebrated the 184th Birthday of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Deva with great solemnity. A week long Religious and Cultural programmes were held at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati.


On 8th March 2019 the Holy Birth Tithi of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Deva, Special Puja, Home, Devotional Songs and Spiritual Discourse on the Life and Teachings of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Deva were arranged at the main temple of the Ashrama. A large number of devotees (about 5000) attended the programme.


On 10th March2019 at 6-00 p.m. a Cultural Programme comprising of Huchuori Dance by the Student (Home Boys) of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati, Odissi Dance by the renowned Odissi dancer Sri Jagat Jyoti Banerjee, Kolkata and Devotional songs by Swami Divyalokanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong was held at the auditorium hall. About 300 nos. of devotees/audience was present in this programme.


On 15th March 2019, Swami Kripakaranandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan, Kolkata performed solo devotional songs in Vivekananda Hall which was attended by 150 devotees.


On 16th March 2019, Devotees Convention was held in the Main Temple which was attended by 275 devotees. Swami Satyeshanandaji Maharaj, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chandigarh & Trustee , Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah, spoke on importance of Bhakta Sanmelan and Swami Vivekananda’s success in World Parliament of Religions. Swami Tyagarupanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Malda spoke on Holy Mother’s love for devotees and Sri Ramakrishna, the architecture of Ramakrishna Sangha.


The week long celebrations came to an end with a Public meeting and cultural programme on 17th March,2019.


Mrs. Shrutidhara Chakravarty, Head of the department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University was the Chief Guest. and spoke about Swami Vivekananda’s preparation for the eventful World Parliament of Religion held at Chicago in 1893.


The other guest speakers were Swami Satyeshanandaji Maharaj, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chandigarh & Trustee , Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math. He spoke about Sri Ramakrishna’s love for Humanity and other guest speaker Swami Kripakaranandaji Maharaj spoke about Sri Maa Sarada Devi and modern women. The Public meeting was presided over by Swami Tyagarupanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Malda . He spoke in details the universality and modernity of Sri Ramakrishna’s message and its application in our day to day life.


Like previous years this year also Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati awarded One-time Scholarship to 20 poor and meritorious students (@Rs. 2,500/- each Total 50,000/-). As a welfare activities 20 Nos. of Sewing Machine and 11 nos. of Tatsal were distributed among the poor and needy women from different villages of Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon and Baksa District.


The programme was conducted by Dr. Bhabesh Das, renowned oncologist of Guwahati.

After the Public meeting a cultural programme was held, in the Auditorium. The main attraction of this programme was Satriya Dance by Dr. Meernanda Barthakur & party, the Sattriya Kendra, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Guwahati.


National Youth Day Celebration (12th January 2019)

The 35th National Youth Day was celebrated at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati as per the following programme.


On 12th January, 2019, Swami Vivekananda’s burst at Kamakhya Dham was garlanded along with the Vedic chanting.


At 9-00 a.m. at the Ashrama premises, the programme started with the Vedic Chanting by the Monks and Brahmacharies of our Ashrama. Welcome address was given by Swami Japeshwarananda Maharaj and Br. Debabrata also spoke on Vivekananda on this occasion. Various competition like Drawing, Speech, Devotional song and Patriotic song were conducted among the students of various schools of Guwahati. 170 students participated in the competitions.


In commemoration of 125th Anniversary of Historic Chicago (Addresses of Swami Vivekananda in 1893)

In commemoration of 125th Anniversary of Historic Chicago Addresses of Swami Vivekananda in 1893, a Public Meeting was held at Vivekananda Hall in the premises of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati at 4-00 p.m. on 3rd February 2019. The meeting was attended by good number of students, teachers, guardians and devotees of Guwahati and adjacent areas. Swami Viswatmanandaji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Advaita Ashrama, Varanasi and Swami Tadbodhanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Dibrugarh spoke on this auspicious occasion.

The programme started with the enthralling Vedic and Gita Chanting by students of Maharshi Vidyamandir, Lalmati, Guwahati, followed by reading of Swami Vivekananda’s Welcome Speech at Parliament of Religion and speeches by students and invited guest speakers. Swami Tadbodhanandaji Maharaj spoke about Swami Vivekananda’s training under his Guru Sri Ramakrishna and his detailed study of India as a wondering monk before his appearance in the Parliament of Religion, Chicago. He advised the students to study and know Vivekananda. Revered Swami Viswatmanandaji Maharaj elaborated on effect of Swami Vivekananda’s Historic Speech at the World Parliament of Religion in India and the world at large. He advised the students to develop the concentration of mind for attaining success in the life.

Prizes comprising statue of Swami Vivekananda, Photos and Books on Ramakrishna- Vivekananda were presented to the winners of Speech, Song and Art Competition held on 12th January 2019, The National Youth Day.


The programme ended with closing song presented by the boys of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Students’ Home, Guwahati. About 300 people attended the programme.

The Project “Health Awareness of Mothers & Community Members” got executed on 01/07/2018 at Borgaon Tea Garden Area about 60 K.m. away from Guwahati City. Pregnant women of various communities : Tribal and General avail this opportunity.

Under this project a team of Medical staff Doctors, Compounder and Health Assistant under direct supervision of monastic member visit this place once in a month regularly. This camp is attended by pregnant women of the locality and adjacent areas and health workers. Health Awareness talks are given by doctors to them and Asha Workers. Our doctors conduct Routine A.N.C. checkup for them and free medicines like Calcium, Iron, Folic Acid and other essential drugs are provided. Nutritional Supplements like fruit juice, protein supplements and Multi-Vitamin are provided to them. Pregnant women are also supplied with free medicines for other diseases like UTI, Gastric and skin disease etc. Any case detected serious, patients are advised to visit Hospital for early intervention.


This is to our observation that there is significant improvement in the health and hygiene of the women who attend the said camp. From a humble beginning on 01/07/2018 till now we have conducted 9 such camps the details of which are given below :
